The Round-Up: Coming Up in Street Football, Futsal, and Freestyle

2016 is rapidly coming to a close, so let’s check out the remaining street football, futsal, and freestyle events for the year, as well as a few events in 2017.

Copa USA National Fives 5v5, Dec. 17, Los Angeles, CA

The deadline to register for the first heat of the largest amateur 5v5 tournament in the world was Dec. 10, so if you missed out, well, time to get begging. There will be men’s, women’s, and co-ed play, with teams allowed to have seven players. The tournament spans 40 countries and will have over 100,000 teams, with each team guaranteed three games and a free uniform. Oh and the best part? Each group winner gains free entry to the USA National Finals. The men’s group winners also get a shot at wining an all expenses paid trip to represent the USA in Beijing, China. There’s a separate tournament for the youth divisions, too!

Winter Clothing Drive, Dec. 17, Los Angeles, CA

Our friends at Black Army 1850 are helping to spread the holiday love with a clothing drive. Sweaters, jackets, and other items can be dropped off at Intaktics Soccer Center.

5 on 5 Futsal Tournament, Dec. 18, Los Angeles, CA

Hosted by Electric Futsal, this “no goalies, no referees” tournament takes place at the Venice Beach Courts. Registration is $200 a team, and all proceeds go to Home Field Advantage, a non-profit after school community sports project focused on leadership development in Southern California.

5v5 Holiday Classic, Dec. 27, Jan. 1, Blaine, MN 

While the registration deadline for this tournament has already passed, applications are still being accepted because most of the divisions aren’t filled yet. There are boys and girls youth divisions and men’s, women’s, and co-ed divisions. Each team is guaranteed three games, which will consist of two 20-minute halves. The tournament will be played on an artificial turf surface.

Penn West Futsal New Years Tournament, Dec. 31, Monroeville, PA

The deadline to register for this indoor 5v5 futsal tournament is Dec. 15! Men’s, women’s, and co-ed teams may register for $300. All teams will be guaranteed three games, with the champion winning $500. The tournament will be held at the Monroeville Sports Center on their sport court.

Copa USA National Fives 5v5, Jan. 14, Los Angeles, CA

The second heat of this tournament is Jan. 14, albeit with a more expensive entry fee. See details above for more information.

4v4 Futsal Freeze, Jan. 15-16, Wilder, KY 

This tournament is for youth, with age divisions ranging from 6 to 18. The registration deadline is January 4 and it costs just $120 per team to register. Teams will consist of six players, and games will last 24 minutes. The tournament will be held at the Town & Country Athletic Center. There will also be a $5 entry fee for adult entry, while children get in for free.
