One of the minds behind the brilliant Oakland Roots, Edreece Arghandiwal joins the Urban Pitch Podcast to peel back the layers behind the club’s success.
Since their formation, the Oakland Roots have been one of the most compelling American soccer clubs in existence. From their dope merch and jerseys to their community impact, the Roots, who compete in the USL Championship, have thrived at a higher level than many larger clubs across the country.
We’ve been up on the Roots for a while now, covering them before they even played their first match in 2018. And no matter what league the club competes in, its mission is the same — create an impact in the Oakland community while showcasing the city’s vibrant culture and tradition. And oh yeah, winning games. The Roots haven’t missed the playoffs in any full season they’ve competed in, and while they currently sit two spots out of the Western Conference playoff race, they’re just three points back of seventh place with plenty of season remaining.
To get a better understanding behind the club’s success, the Washed-Up Crew caught up with Roots co-founder Edreece Arghandiwal, who also serves as the club’s CMO. Arghandiwal discusses the initial vision he and his fellow co-founders had when creating the club, how they were able to execute that vision, and some of the challenges and setbacks along the way.
