The latest episode of the Urban Pitch Podcast sees the Washed-Up Crew recap the past few weeks in soccer in LA, which included a couple of rivalry matches, spicy transfer rumors, and a Chelsea FC event at the swanky SoHo House.
While many have complained about a lack of sports in the month of July, real ones know that the MLS and NWSL seasons are getting into the thick of things. In Los Angeles alone, we’ve had a pair of wonderfully entertaining rivalry matches in which the home teams reigned victorious, and the points races in both leagues look like they’ll be going down to the wire.
Elsewhere, Chelsea FC were also in town as part of their tour of the city and preseason training camp. That tour included a panel event at the SoHo House in West Hollywood, where former Chelsea stars Joe Cole and Eniola Aluko joined LA staples Rich Orozco and Denise Jones to talk about the influence the beautiful game has on global culture. That’s of course right in our wheelhouse, so we had to drop by to take in the gems from the illustrious panel.
Particularly interesting was Aluko’s insight into the growth of the women’s game over the years, and how she’s used her experiences to help create the thriving atmosphere at Angel City FC, in addition to a behind-the-scenes look at how LAFC approached their game-changing deal with New Era from Orozco.
The Washed-Up Crew discussed some takeaways from that event, as well as their thoughts on the Angel City FC game day experience and the new stars at LAFC, Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini.
