One of the most stylish clubs in the world, Red Star FC has long been a hipster’s choice when it comes to teams. Their latest 2024-25 kits are yet another hit, but where do they fit in the club’s storied shirt history?
The new Red Star FC kits have dropped and, as expected, are making a lot of noise in the football kit world. The trio of 2024-25 shirts, made by Kappa, continue the Italian brand’s outrageous hot streak of late.
Kappa has been the club’s kit partner since 2021-22, and have carried on the Parisian club’s tradition of effortless style. Previously, Red Star was with adidas, who, paired with sponsor Vice (RIP!), produced some classics of their own as well.
It’s important to note that this club isn’t one where money flows freely. Recently promoted to Ligue 2, Red Star has had its share of financial troubles in the past. The club instead relies on its outspoken political beliefs, dedicated support, and creative edge. The French club is long-revered in the kit game, with many fantastic shirts in its repertoire. So with this recent drop of all three home, away and third kits, it was time we looked back on Red Star FC’s best-ever and bask in all the glory.
7. 2019-20 Home
The club was right amongst it as the gap between football and fashion was bridged. And this home kit was at the forefront of this shift, featuring a sublimated pattern in their classic dark green and black color scheme. The shirt created noise, but for me, it lacks that slight edge to be further up the list.
6. 2021-22 Home
This one is included entirely for the pattern and texture it uses. The shirt features a big white center piece, flanked by two green sections, moving away from the striped or fully green look we have seen on Red Star’s shirts before. The ripped texture between the two colors is the showstopper here, adding an edge to the shirt that elevates what would essentially be quite a straightforward design.
It was also created in collaboration with Daily Paper, a Netherlands-based fashion brand that is no stranger to the world of football. The kit can also be customized with three patches, one reading “Refugees Welcome,” which highlights the political stance the club and its fans take.
5. 2019-20 Away
Looking pretty in pink, Red Star looked to bounce back following relegation from Ligue 2, in which they only spent one season in. Back in the Championnat and doing it in style, this kit featured a pink design with a distinct pattern, black accents, and the Vice sponsor front and center, adding to their edgy football hipster status. If you were ‘ITK’ about Red Star around this time, you were deemed part of the football cool kid squad, apparently.
4. 2020-21 Home
Moving on a season and Red Star probably dropped a pair of kits that became two of the most hyped we’ve ever seen. The club turned its attention to creative brand, Acid FC, for a selection of bespoke illustrations inspired by an antique flea market located near their home stadium. This home shirt came in their classic green color, with the illustrations featuring in a darker shade.
3. 2022-23 Anniversary
This was Kappa’s second season with the club, with their first falling a bit flat — not a surprise given the massive expectations of being a Red Star kit supplier. The home and away of this season were also pretty average, but the 125th anniversary follow-up by the brand and club definitely made noise. Red Star took a massive risk and put together a design contest to determine the aesthetic of the special edition kit. Notable football shirt expert Phil Delves ended up the winner, and with good reason.
The striped number has each green stripe representing one of the club’s five Coupe de France titles. Beau.
2. 2020-21 Away
This was a good season for Red Star FC kits, with the away beating the home to a podium finish in this list by the skin of its teeth. The exact same bespoke illustrated design features here, but this time in a pink and white colorway. For some reason, this one just oozes more class. It looks like the fine china you’d get when sitting down at a trendy wine bar for some small plates and natural juice.
1. Home 2024-25
When I first started pulling together notes for this list, I didn’t expect Red Star’s newest kit to hit the top spot. But the more I look at it, the more I fall in love. Red Star has returned to the striped number, with the five stripes that represent the club’s Coupe De France title wins, as previously mentioned. The pattern on the shirt is made up of the star, the name of the club and the year it was formed, 1897. Add in the traditional collar with the thin striped detailing that’s also mirrored on the sleeve cuffs and you’ve got yourself yet another Kappa hit.
