The Urban Pitch Podcast: 2023 Women’s World Cup Kickoff and MLS vs. Saudi Pro

From the start of the Women’s World Cup to Cristiano Ronaldo saying that the Saudi Pro League is better than MLS, the Urban Pitch Podcast crew had plenty to talk about in the latest episode.

Continuing what’s been a busy summer in the soccer world, the 2023 World Cup kicked off last week to plenty of fanfare, and we’ve already seen some shocking results, incredible goals, and fantastic storylines.

As with seemingly every World Cup, the home nations have received an extra boost, with New Zealand upsetting tournament favorites Norway in their opening match, and Australia less surprisingly dispatching of Ireland in their debut. The United States women’s national team defeated Vietnam 3-0 in their opener, but it wasn’t as convincing of a victory as many predicted, and Vietnam, playing in their first ever World Cup, stood up to their daunting opponents quite admirably.

Elsewhere, Brazil put the world on notice with a 4-0 win over Panama, which included a marvelous hat trick from Ary Borges, who quickly became the leader in the Golden Boot race.

In the latest episode of the Urban Pitch Podcast, the crew goes over the start of the biggest competition in women’s football, along with other happenings in the soccer-verse, including pro/rel’s introduction to the USL, and the ongoing debate of which league is better: MLS or the Saudi Pro League?
