Ex-Club America midfielder Jen Munoz joins the washed-up crew to discuss retiring from pro soccer at 25, her burgeoning sports media career, and what it was like to play in the Azteca.
Whether it’s scoring goals for Club America or competing in the Exatlon reality TV series, Jen Munoz is always up for a challenge. If there’s one thing that sums up her competitive spirit, it’s the story of when she nearly drowned during an underwater competition on Exatlon, only to complete it shortly after being saved.
Her stint on the Survivor-esque show comes after her pro soccer career with Club America and the Mexico national team — one that nearly never happened. While a senior at the University of New Mexico, Munoz was preparing to enter the corporate world rather than continue her playing days. But she received an offer to play a friendly with Club America that she couldn’t turn down.
After a successful trial and a few seasons with the club, Munoz was ready for a new challenge. At just 25, she decided to make a shift into sports media, and is currently a co-host on 110 Football’s Angels Wear Boots show that covers NWSL side Angel City FC.
Munoz joins the Urban Pitch podcast to discuss what went into that decision, along with her experiences with America, getting to play in the Azteca, and her ideal first date in Los Angeles.
