Stix Enlists the Help of the 3252 for ‘My Home,’ LAFC’s Community Anthem

Paying homage to the team he has come to know and love, Watts native Stix has finally dropped “My Home,” an anthem for LAFC’s community.

Soccer was never a big part of rap veteran Stix’s life. Stix, born Brandon Salaam-Bailey, grew up watching traditional American sports like football, baseball, and basketball. But things are starting to change for the Watts native through LAFC and their grassroots approach to representing their city.

The rap veteran has dropped an LAFC-centric anthem “My Home” earlier today, just in time for the team’s late-season push into the MLS playoffs.

With recorded chanting from the 3252 supporters’ group serving as the backdrop of the beat, Stix effortlessly drops bars about his favorite club and their culture. From bragging about the noise of the North End, where the 3252 stands in the Banc of California Stadium, to referencing the their “shoulder to shoulder” motto, the anthem highlights the best part of the team — its fans.

In the second verse, Stix defiantly declares, “Come to my house, I’ll defend that Banc,” no doubt speaking for many fans of the club. He also gives Koreatown and Niky’s Sports, both popular hangout spots for LAFC fans, a shoutout. The anthem also does its part to etch LAFC’s game day into everyday Los Angeles culture, as Stix boasts, “Rolling down Fig to the Banc with an angel, black and gold on her halo.”

Further representing the fans, Stix released a Spanish cut of the song entitled “Mi Casa” as well.

“I just wanted to do something for the people that represent the city I grew up in,” Stix said. “I wanted the team and the fans to have a song that they can connect to their city and favorite team. I also want to create this relationship between hip-hop and soccer that I feel doesn’t exist as of today.”

Stix’s involvement with the team happened almost by accident. It started when he bought the team’s away kit, unaware it was a jersey for any team but drawn to its LA-centric color scheme. He wore the jersey at the Kush Groove concert hosted by legendary LA radio station KDAY, where photos of him in the kit reached LAFC’s front office.

“I chose black and gold because of the connection they have with the streets and culture of Los Angeles,” Stix said. “Photos from the event were passed over to Ben Chi and Rich Orosco, they invited me to a game via Instagram DM, and the rest was history. I believe in the statement, ‘Go where you’re appreciated, not where you’re tolerated.'”

Like many other Angelenos, Stix is drawn to the club’s commitment to represent the city and all of its inhabitants. From their community-centric mantra to its diverse fan base, Stix instantly fell in love with the team after attending his first game.

He’s also drawn to the product on the pitch, so much so that he can’t decide on his favorite player.

“Well I have three — Carlos Vela, Latif Blessing, and Tyler Miller,” he said. “Carlos because he plays so carefree, like it’s easy to play the forward position. He allows the game to come to him and I never see him force anything. He can score as well as he can assist. Latif because of his speed and footwork. His size is not a hindrance for he fears no one. Tyler because of his intensity at the goalie position. He plays hard every single game and without him, well, we know the rest.”

Stix also has an LAFC-themed music video in the works, which is surely set to drop soon. As far as further involvement with the club, he didn’t rule out the possibility of becoming a pre-game honorary falconer in the future.

“I’m just saying I’m great with birds — my cousins and I in the past raised pigeons,” he says.
